Rejected petition Better funding of pothole repairs and road maintenance.
Create a team in each council, dedicated to pothole repairs and road maintenance, where each adopted road is robustly checked, at least annually, resulting in no pothole of 40mm depth or more being present for over a year. Uncomfortable roads that pop tyres shouldn’t be of present day.
More details
The roads in the UK are a public right of passage where the Government receives both a road and petrol tax, amongst other forms of
taxation, from all UK vehicle owners. This money is then channeled into a central
fund for all public spenditure where not enough is being done to ensure road maintenance. The UK needs a shift from reactive pothole repair to preventative asset management that isn’t fragmented, and based on a postcode lottery.
