Open petition: Make the Nolan Principles legally enforceable for all politicians and candidates

Created by Daniel Stears
Closes on

We want the Nolan Principles to be legally enforceable with penalties if broken for all politicians and candidates. We believe for far too long, the British public have been subject to mistruths and lies by politicians in order to gain political favour. Enough is enough.

We are concerned that with the increased use of scaremongering and AI to push false narratives, it is more important now than it ever has been to ensure that the British Public can rely on what we are being told by our politicians is the truth. We think the only way to do this is by changing the Nolan Principles of Public life from a set of ethical standards to something enshrined into law with consequences for breaking them.
