Rejected petition Require all MPs & peers to be fully tax resident in the UK
Make it a legal requirement that no person may stand as a candidate, or sit as an MP or peer, in Parliament or the House of Lords, unless they are a full tax resident in the UK and do not use tax havens to avoid paying taxes that would otherwise be paid to the UK to support public services.
More details
Just as there should be no taxation without representation, those representing us to make tax and spending commitments in the UK should be tax payers themselves.
They should not be allowed to use tax havens to hide their wealth from contributing their fair share in taxes while at the same time making the laws that the public must pay.
The current situation allows MPs & peers to hide their wealth abroad, a clear conflict of interest for our legislators, that should not be allowed to continue.

Why was this petition rejected?
We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.
We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.
Part 4 of the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 provides that members of the House of Commons (MPs) and House of Lords (Peers) are deemed resident in the UK for the purposes of income tax, inheritance tax and capital gains tax.
From April 2025, they are classified as long-term UK tax residents.
You may wish to submit a petition on how you would like the provisions in the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 (CRAG) to be expanded.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
