Rejected petition emergency 50% cut in fuel duty to protect families from global oil spike.

We call on the Government to immediately reduce Fuel Duty by 50% (from 52.95p to 26.48p per litre) for as long as is required to keep the price of fuel below Feb 2026 prices. This measure is essential to shield households and the UK supply chain from soaring prices caused by global conflict.

More details

The recent spike in fuel prices will influence the cost of all goods within the UK. The average citizen is not here to mitigate these global issues; that is what the Government is for.
Currently, the Government takes 52.95p in duty plus 20% VAT on every litre. Our pockets only go so far, while the reach of the Treasury’s arm should be limited by its duty to the people. We believe that collecting record tax revenue while families struggle to afford basic transport is a violation of the Government's responsibility.
An immediate 26.5p cut to Fuel Duty would provide a total saving of over 31p per litre once VAT is included. This would act as a vital buffer against inflation and prove that the Government is prioritising the financial survival of the public over its own tax receipts.
