Rejected petition: Require local authorities scan deceased/injured cats' microchips & notify owners
Rejected on
We request the Government require local authorities to scan injured or deceased cats for microchips and notify owners, following standard procedures to ensure consistency, accountability, and that owners are informed about incidents involving their cats.
Every year, thousands of cats die, yet many owners never know what happened, and were left with their own grief. Often, local authorities don't scan for microchips or notify owners, leaving families without closure. Requiring consistent scanning and notification could ensure owners are informed, reducing distress, and creating accountability, giving every beloved pet a chance to be recognised and gives every family the answers they deserve.
