Open petition: Stop the governments plan to cut the disability element of Universal credit.

Created by Issy Emmitt
Closes on

The government plan to cut the "Health Element" of Universal Credit (LCWRA) in half for new applicants. Claimants who already receive LWCRA will have their allowance increased from £423.27 to £429.80 a month. However, from April 6th 2026, new applicants will only receive £217.26 per month.

This element of Universal Credit is life supporting financial aid for people who struggle to work due to their health. The aim is to "encourage work" amongst disabled individuals who have already gone through health assessments. The funds saved will be "reinvested into increasing the standard allowance for all UC claimant's". The government want to take benefits from disabled people and give more to those recieving Universal Credit, who do not have health issues preventing them from working.
