Rejected petition: Abolish fuel duty on petrol and diesel

Rejected on

Abolish fuel duty on petrol and diesel to lower the cost of living and support working people, small businesses, and rural communities who rely on vehicles for essential travel, where alternatives such as public transport are limited or unavailable, and travel distances are greater.

Fuel is subject to multiple layers of taxation, with fuel duty applied first and VAT then charged on top, increasing the burden on consumers. Costs are passed through the economy, raising the price of food, goods, transport, and services. For many, especially in rural areas, driving is not optional. High fuel costs place growing financial pressure on households and businesses. Removing fuel duty would provide immediate relief, support economic activity, and improve financial resilience.
