Open petition: Ban 'scalping' of items for short term resale at inflated prices.
Created by Christopher Lewis
Closes on
People purchase products en-masse (often on credit) to resell, such as trading cards, trainers and other limited edition items. For these items there can be markups of so much as 200% or more on resold products.
This has become a "viable" means of making a living for many individuals, using the internet to sell items via post after purchasing them in person at retailers. Scalpers will use digital means to buy up product online and they also travel around shops, purchasing as much of a given item as they can and often emptying shelves before an actual consumer can reach them. This has forced hops to often implement measures to limit purchases which has in turn resulted in threats or acts of violence to staff of retailers or simple theft of "high value" items. I wish for the government to ban immediate (within 6 months of purchase) resale of items purchased from a seller at retail price (or equivalent) with no modification at inflated prices.
