Rejected petition: Lower grade boundaries for maths, English & science

Rejected on

We call on the DFE & Ofqual to implement more lenient grade boundaries for GCSE core subjects. The government should mandate a safety net mechanism that accounts for the learning loss and psychological impact experienced by students who were at critical developmental stages during national lockdowns.

COVID19 significantly disrupted the transition into secondary education. These formative years are vital for building foundational knowledge; missing them has created persistent gaps that standard curriculum pacing doesn't address.Failing to adjust grade boundaries risks penalizing students for circumstances beyond their control, potentially hindering their future career and education prospects.A review is essential to ensure fairness and protect student mental health.
