Review recent research regarding BIAB nails not being an infection control risk and review. Nails can be an important way for people to express themself whilst also helping build their nails strength and reduce the chance of split/sharp nails that may scratch patients.
“Gel nail polish does not have a negative impact on the nail bacterial burden…” (Journal of Hospital Infection, 2025) . This shows that gel polish does not have a negative effect on bacterial burden.
Recent peer-reviewed research (Journal of Hospital Infection, 2025) demonstrates that gel nail polish does not increase bacterial burden or reduce hand hygiene effectiveness in healthcare workers. Earlier studies similarly found no increased microorganism levels on gel-polished nails compared to natural nails, suggesting current restrictions may not reflect up-to-date evidence.
