Open petition: Allow Charities to continue to re-home adult dogs with historic injuries

Created by Natalie Isherwood
Closes on

We ask Parliament to include an exemption in the Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Act 2025 allowing registered charities and responsible rescue organisations to continue to rehome adult, healthy dogs with historic injuries or mutilations to the UK.

Without this exemption, we will be unable to rescue dogs that have lost eyes, tails, or limbs due to abuse, trauma, or past working lives—not cosmetic practices.
We support the Act’s aims, but urge a targeted exemption that protects animal welfare, prevents unintended harm, and allows responsible rescue work to continue, without creating loopholes.
