Rejected petition: To make St George's Day a National Holiday in England

Rejected on

St George's Day is a great opportunity to celebrate English culture, heritage and identity. From our beautiful landscapes and national parks, quaint villages, stunning coasts, cosy village pubs, world renowned sports, sports teams and stadia, engineers, doctors, scientists, playwriters and authors.

In years gone by we celebrated and marked it with walking days and parades and now St George's Day is simply just another day that goes by. A day where a few empty social media posts are put out from public bodies and different sides of political divides. It is precisely why we need a national holiday, to restore it to be a day celebrated by all Englishmen and Women. Just like in other nations, one day where we can put differences aside and celebrate our historic and beautiful nation.
