Open petition: Extend UK Ancestry Visa to include Mauritius and former British territories
Created by Anousha puran-chohan
Closes on
Currently the UK Ancestry Visa is only for those with grandparents born in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man. We ask the Government to extend it to also include grandparents born in former British territories including Mauritius, which was a colony until 1968.
We believe that this inclusion was considered by the Government, but discarded without any clear reason or explanation given. Mauritius was a British Colony until 1968, so those born there during that period have direct historical, legal and family ties to the UK. In our view, extending eligibility recognises our shared heritage, treats Commonwealth citizens equally and fairly, and lets eligible people live, work, pay taxes and contribute positively to the UK economy and society.
