"Adopt 'Jerusalem' as the official national anthem for England. This would provide England with its own distinct anthem for sporting and cultural events, separate from the UK’s 'God Save the King'."
England needs its own anthem. While "God Save the King" is for the UK, Scotland and Wales have their own. "Jerusalem" stands for the English people and our land. It is already used at the Commonwealth Games and by sports teams. It would give us a distinct voice and pride that belongs to us.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
This isn’t something that the UK Government or Parliament would be able to do. The use of the present National Anthem is a matter of tradition rather than having any legal or constitutional status.
