Rejected petition: A full line Government Whip should only be used to pass Manifesto policy
Rejected on
In line with recent rumours that the government is going to whip their MPs on the vote on a parliamentary sleaze enquiry into the PM, we must ensure that all Whipping only occurs on manifesto policies which are the only ones that have a democratic mandate
Pass a bill or set a convention that MPs should only be whipped on manifesto policies as they are the only ones with a democratic mandate. To potentially whip backbenchers on possible investigations into the actions of a Prime Minister or other government officials prevents successful scrutiny and goes against the best interests of the Nation. Scrutiny votes are a National interest and go beyond party politics, so they should be seen that way.
Why was this petition rejected?
