Rejected petition: Close all bars and remove alcohol from the Palace of Westminster permanently

Rejected on

MPs are voting on laws that affect millions of people’s lives. Green MP Hannah Spencer recently spoke out about smelling alcohol on colleagues heading into vote. In no other profession - hospitals, schools, banks - is drinking during working hours acceptable.

Parliament is a workplace, not a pub. Ordinary people go to work without access to subsidised bars and are expected to perform their jobs sober. Our elected representatives should be held to the same standard - or higher, given the importance of their decisions.
Closing the bars sends a clear message: Westminster exists to serve the public, not to function as a private members’ club. End the sale and consumption of alcohol in the Palace of Westminster permanently.
