Rejected petition: Change the voting system from First-Past-the-Post
Rejected on
We want the UK Government to start a debate in Parliament about changing our voting system from the First-Past-the-Post system to the Proportional Representation with a single transferable vote system, in order to encourage more people to engage in elections and increase voter turnout.
We believe that in present day, there are not enough people voting in elections, as evident by the 2024 general election’s low voter turnout. A change in our country’s voting system may not only encourage previous voters to vote in the next elections, but headlines regarding the new system may intrigue young people to take interest in politics too. A strong, politically engaged population ensures a standardised, fair democracy that takes into account all opinions and beliefs.
