Open petition: Government to provide funeral costs for veterans from their pension funds

Created by mark fletcher
Closes on

Service persons normally serve a minimum of 3-4 years from enlistment & can accrue a pension from the age of 17 & a half years. Money from that service pension could be put into a Government fund by an opt-in scheme & invested via bonds or another scheme to pay for a veterans funeral post discharge

Many veterans face trauma, divorce, suicide, addiction, or financial ruin after service. To spare grieving families the stress of funeral costs, we ask the MoD to automatically set aside a portion of service pensions into a protected fund. These funds, invested securely, could be released within 24 hours of death upon simple proof of service. We believe this safety net ensures no veteran is buried in debt, honouring their sacrifice with dignity and peace of mind for their loved ones during their darkest hour.
