Open petition: Review domestic abuse case handling by police and CPS

Created by Francesca White
Closes on

Review the police and CPS' handling of domestic abuse cases and the case for independent oversight. This should include case reviews if failings are suspected to have occurred, with recommendations for accountability for errors, and consideration of improved evidence handling and communication.

We believe that repeated failures in domestic abuse cases, including poor evidence handling, delays and misinformation, show current systems are not working. In our view, these issues can continue even when raised, showing a lack of accountability. We think this risks undermining justice and causes victims to lose trust, and a review is needed to ensure accountability and prevent these failings continuing. This petition is informed by my own experience of the handling of a domestic abuse case.
