Open petition: Make Sexual Education Mandatory For Academic Years 3 and Up
Created by Max Nyahoe
Closes on
The Children’s Commissioner found that 10% of children are exposed to pornography by age 9 (academic years 4 and 5) - that jumps to 27% by age 11(academic years 6 and 7). Yet, despite studies linking porn to aggressive sexual behaviour, sexual education is still not mandatory in all primary schools.
A government literary review, published in 2021, concluded that pornography viewing was a factor in poor attitudes against women and girls, including 1. Viewing women as sex objects; 2. Shaping men’s sexual expectations of women; 3. Acceptance of sexual aggression towards women; and 4. Perpetration of sexual aggression. Yet, the governments recent policy paper, aiming to "halve violence against women and girls in a decade" has no plea for mandatory sexual education within all primary schools.
