Rejected petition: The Government should provide a legal means of recognition for Non-Binary People

The Government should understand the increase in Gender Non-conforming identities and that people may live such lives for various reasons. As a result, the Government should provide legal recognition for these people, akin to the ‘X’ Gender marker used in parts of Europe and Canada.
Gender-based legislation in the United Kingdom hasn’t progressed since 2010, with Scotland’s GRC Shot down in 2023 and the Equality Act defined in 2025 to prioritise biology. Since 2010, evidence has shown time and time again that people feel heightened distress and feel more mentally vulnerable when not allowed to freely express their identity and live a life of their own choosing. This simple change in social policy would benefit the lives of Gender Non-Conforming people and the Government.
Why was this petition rejected?
