Open petition: Require every bus to have at least 2 spaces for wheelchairs
Created by Steven Frost
Closes on
My wife and I are both wheelchair users when we want to go anywhere it’s impossible for us both to go by bus because many bus companies around the country will only allow one wheelchair on a bus at a time. It means that if we want to go out together we have to use a train although we have a bus pass
Bus companies around the country must have only space for a wheelchair user on a bus. There are lots of couples that have to use another means of transport or travel on separate buses, this is totally unfair. My wife won’t travel on her own, so it’s impossible for us to use our bus passes together. What makes it worse is there is sometimes only one wheelchair space, but they will allow 3 pushchairs, walkers, luggage etc. We are in an age with equal rights, it’s time buses had 2 wheelchairs spaces.
