Open petition: Transition to a digital voting system
Created by Kieran Richards
Closes on
We call on the Government to develop and implement a secure digital voting platform for use in General and Local elections. This system should be designed to modernise our democracy, increase accessibility, and significantly reduce the recurring multimillion-pound burden on the taxpayer.
We believe the current system is an expensive relic. Spending over £150 million on a single general election with millions wasted on paper, postage, and manual labour feels indefensible to us when public services are struggling for funding. People do almost everything else securely online, from banking to taxes, so our democracy shouldn't be stuck in the 19th century. We believe digitising the process would slash administrative overheads, save local councils a fortune, and finally make voting accessible for everyone.
