Open petition: Review the Evidence Allowed in Domestic Abuse Investigations
Created by Annalise Park
Closes on
Review the evidence allowed in domestic abuse cases including loosening rules on admitting psychological assessments of lie detector tests, access to school and youth offending records to look at past aggression and violent tendencies, family cycle of abuse, and statements from ex partners.
We are concerned that domestic abuse that happens in private behind closed doors rarely leads to convictions because there is so little evidence to prove a pattern. Many cases collapse as “he said/she said.” Making it possible or easier to use psychological assessments, lie detector tests, school and youth offending records, family abuse history, and ex partner statements could give CPS the tools to show repeated harm and hold abusers properly accountable.
