Rejected petition: Support NHS Staffing: Let Experienced Overseas Pharmacists Work Without OSPAP.
Rejected on
Overseas pharmacists with at least 5 years’ professional experience should be allowed to work in the UK without completing the OSPAP course or exams, by starting in a supervised junior pharmacist role under the guidance of a registered UK pharmacist.
Many overseas pharmacists already have extensive education and over 5 years of professional experience, yet they must repeat costly and lengthy processes before working in the UK. Allowing them to work in supervised junior roles would help reduce NHS staff shortages, improve patient access to pharmacy services, and recognise valuable international experience while maintaining patient safety through supervision by registered UK pharmacists.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions around the OSPAP are a matter for the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), not the UK Government or Parliament.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
