Open petition: Statutory mental health early intervention framework for children & young people
Created by Sam Norman
Closes on
Introduce a statutory early intervention framework for children and young people to include: clear national thresholds for early intervention; mandatory multi-agency escalation pathways; and time-bound response requirements for assessment and support. These changes could be known as Mia's Law.
We are concerned that current responses for child mental health and safeguarding often require children and young people to reach crisis point before receiving meaningful support. Services can be delayed, inconsistent, and fragmented between education, health, and local authority systems.
A statutory framework would aim to create a consistent national approach to early identification and response, ensuring that support is provided at the earliest point of need rather than at crisis stage.
