Rejected petition: Animal Offender Register

The government to approve additional legislation under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 whereby all offenders, who are convicted of an animal cruelty offence, are placed on an Animal Offender Register.

With the number of offences rising it is clear that there is no proper deterrent. We are seeing more extreme cruelty cases relating to animals in the news and online. More needs to be done to combat this and to ensure a record is kept of those who offend and who potentially will go on to re-offend. RSPCA stats - 2.3 million adults experienced domestic abuse in 2024; 71% reported a threat to their pets. When animals are abused people are at risk; When people are abused animals are at risk


Why was this petition rejected?
