Rejected petition: Get more schools to use fair-trade certified products

Rejected on

To ensure there are more schools across the country using Fair-Trade products for things such as food suppliers, PE equipment and more - the goal is to get more schools Fair-Trade certified.

There are only (roughly) 1200 schools across the country who are Fair-Trade certified, which as much as it's progress, there could be more. It's important the movement gets as much support as possible to ensure they can continue to help those in poverty and in unfair conditions despite the amount of work they do. So with the high consumption rate of schools it makes it more pressing that they also use Fair-Trade products.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about where schools purchase supplies from are a matter for individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament.

You may wish to start a new petition asking the Government to provide additional funding to schools, specifically for the purchase of certain types of supplies or equipment.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
