Rejected petition: Require healthcare universities to publish staff diversity data

Rejected on

Mandate UK healthcare universities to publish staff demographics, set ethnic representation targets, and open recruitment.

There is a lack of visible ethnic diversity among nursing and mental health lecturers across UK higher education. Healthcare students enter professions built on communication, cultural understanding, and trust. Teaching staff must reflect the diverse communities these future professionals serve. This systemic imbalance affects student experience and progression, requiring transparent national accountability.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We are not entirely clear what you mean by "healthcare universities" - presumably you mean universities which teach health-related degrees/subjects?

By "open recruitment" do you mean 'have recruitment that is open to all people equally regardless of ethnicity' or do they mean 'start recruiting more ethnically diverse staff straightaway'?

Ethnicity and age data for universities is already publicly available:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
