Open petition: Review support, protection and timeframes for victims in sexual assault cases
Created by Rebecca Burke
Closes on
Conduct a review with the aim to introduce clearer legal timeframes for CPS decisions, improve victim support, and strengthen protections for victims during sexual assault investigations.
Victims of sexual assault are often left waiting long and uncertain periods for decisions with little communication, which can seriously affect mental health and leave victims feeling isolated. Many continue to live in the same area as the alleged perpetrator, increasing fear anxiety. Stronger protective measures should be considered. We are also concerned there is a lack of local support services. We believe clearer timeframes, better communication, stronger protections and improved support would improve outcomes for victims.
