We call on the UK Government and local authorities to introduce stronger accountability measures by linking councillor allowances and senior local government pay progression to measurable performance, attendance and public service delivery.
At a time when residents are facing increasing council tax bills, service reductions and financial pressures, there must be greater transparency and accountability regarding how public money is spent on leadership roles within local government.
We Believe:
Publicly funded leadership positions should be subject to clear performance expectations in the same way many other professions are.
The performance measure should also be put out for public consultation. So we can help shape the process.
