Rejected petition: Independent Review of Executive Powers & Policing at the UTK March on 16/05/26

Rejected on

Demand an independent review of Home Office and police actions at 16 May 2026 Unite the Kingdom March. Scrutinise executive bans without trial, disproportionate policing, and the definition of extremism. Submit an Urgent Question and Early Day Motion to protect free speech and the rule of law.

On 16/05/26, around 100,000 citizens march on immigration & rule of law. The Home Office banned seven foreign nationals under Section 8 Immigration Act 1971 without judicial process, violating presumption of innocence. 4,000 officers with facial recognition, drones and armoured vehicles policed a largely lawful assembly, failing proportionality under the Human Rights Act. The PM branded the march as hatred, conflating dissent with extremism. We demand independent review & parliamentary action.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

In particular, we're not exactly sure what you mean by "Scrutinise executive bans without trial". We could accept a petition calling for a review of how exclusion decision are made, if that's something that you'd like to see. You can find out more about exclusion decisions and exclusion orders here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/exclusion-decisions-and-exclusion-orders/exclusion-from-the-uk-accessible-version

If you're concerned about specific actions of the police, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, not the Government or Parliament, conducts independent investigations of the police. You can find out more about the IOPC, including how to make a complaint, here: https://www.policeconduct.gov.uk/complaints/submit-a-complaint
