Open petition: Establish a Review into NHS post-operative monitoring procedures
Created by Stacey Wigzell
Closes on
We want the Government to establish a Review into whether current NHS post-operative monitoring procedures are being carried out consistently and to a sufficiently high standard.
In September 2022, Julie Christina Wigzell died aged 43 following routine gallbladder surgery. After surgery she showed signs of serious deterioration, including vomiting, blood in urine, abdominal distension, reduced mobility and not passing stool. Her wife believes a review of current post-operative monitoring and escalation procedures, including checks for bowel function and deterioration, could help identify gaps in patient safety and prevent avoidable deaths after surgery. We want the changes that come out of this review to be called Julie’s Law.
