Rejected petition: Disapprove the EHRC Code of Practice 2026 and protect trans people in law
Rejected on
We call on the House of Commons and the House of Lords to disapprove the EHRC's updated Code of Practice, laid before Parliament on 21 May 2026, and to hold full debate and a free vote on any replacement Code.
The Code redefines "lesbian" and "gay" to exclude trans people (paragraphs 2.50 and 2.92). It bars trans people from single-sex spaces aligned with how they live. Police-recorded trans hate crime rose 50% in five years (Home Office). The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention has issued a Red Flag Alert on the UK. 18 UN experts have warned of rights implications. Under the negative procedure this Code could become law with no debate.
