Open petition: Require NHS hospitals to provide discharge support for sepsis survivors
Created by Sammi Hassan
Closes on
We want the Government to require NHS hospitals to provide mandatory, standardised discharge support for patients recovering from sepsis, including written information, follow-up guidance, red flags for post-sepsis syndrome and access to rehabilitation and mental health support services.
Many people discharged after sepsis leave hospital without clear information about recovery, possible long-term complications or where to seek help for ongoing physical weakness, fatigue, trauma, anxiety, cognitive difficulties and other symptoms that can last months or years. We believe every sepsis survivor should receive a discharge information pack containing information about Post-Sepsis Syndrome, recovery guidance, signposting to charities, peer support and complementary support services.
