Open petition: Ban debt collection when domestic abuse is being investigated
Created by Jonathan Rhys Lee Voerman
Closes on
Require banks and lenders to stop debt collection from suspected victims of domestic abuse while their cases are being investigated. This could be called the TAB law.
This proposed law would make it entirely illegal for collectors and bailiffs to attempt to enforce debt collection once domestic abuse has been identified or is being investigated to give the victim time to escape their abuser. Courts can then confirm what will happen with the debts after investigations are concluded. Debt collection may proceed only after it has been established who the debt belongs to.
