Open petition: Review of Sentencing in Youth Sexual Offence Cases and Judicial Training
Created by Christina Gowling-Jones
Closes on
We call for a review into the sentencing in youth sexual offence cases involving coercion, filming, humiliation and rape, and funding for improved judicial training in such cases. We believe this can help improve public confidence that girls and women are equally protected under the rule of law.
We believe such a review could help ensure stronger recognition that coercion, filming, humiliation, planning and group offending are aggravating factors demonstrating serious intent. We also think that judicial training on coercive control, safeguarding, abuse escalation and victim impact can help ensure safeguarding is balanced with rehabilitation, victim protection/ongoing support, accountability, public confidence and deterrence.
