Rejected petition: Make Group B Strep Screening Mandatory to Protect Mothers and Babies in the UK

Rejected on

Make Group B Streptococcus testing a mandatory part of prenatal care for all pregnant women in the U.K. Group B Strep is a leading cause of severe infection in newborn babies and their Mother's and can result in sepsis, meningitis, lifelong disabilities, and death for both Mother and Child.

Group B Strep, is one of the U.K's leading causes of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and their Mothers and can cause severe illness, permanent disability, and death when transmitted from mother to baby during pregnancy, labour, or birth. In the United Kingdom, routine screening for GBS is not offered through the NHS. In other developed nations, screening is standard practice. We must make testing a part of routine prenatal care, it will prevent deaths and disabilities.
