Rejected petition: Strengthen statutory powers of the cms to avoid financial fraud

Rejected on

This petition is to address various loopholes that exist for paying parents when declaring their income. The petition is calling for an increase in powers given to the cms via statutory instruments to allow further investigation into the accounts of parents paying through the service.

At present a system that was created to support parents with living expenses for their children has become a tool for abuse and neglect. This is due to paying parents who evade parental responsibility by redirecting and hiding income to avoid making payments which is financial fraud. The cms need an increase in powers to combat this issue. The more cases that are investigated and brought to justice will inadvertently reduce the pressure on other services that exist to support single parents.
