Rejected petition: Mandate CCTV in care homes & private nurseries with access to legal guardians
Rejected on
A DBS check cannot prevent abuse. Non-verbal children and vulnerable adults often cannot report harm. Make CCTV mandatory in care homes and private nurseries, with access for families when abuse, neglect, or malpractice is suspected.
Every year, reports emerge of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment in care settings. While the vast majority of care workers provide excellent care, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check only shows known concerns at the time of employment, it cannot prevent future abuse.
This is particularly important for non-verbal children, autistic individuals, people with learning disabilities, and vulnerable adults who may be unable to report abuse or explain what has happened to them.
