Rejected petition: End Religious Exemptions for Carrying Bladed Articles in Public
Rejected on
We call on the UK Government to remove all legal exemptions allowing the carrying of knives or bladed articles in public on religious, cultural or other grounds. Public safety must come first, with one law applying equally to everyone regardless of faith or background
Current law allows certain people to carry bladed articles in public under religious exemptions. We believe public safety should come first and that the same rules should apply equally to everyone. This petition calls on the Government to review and remove exemptions that permit the carrying of knives or bladed articles in public, regardless of religion, culture or background, while encouraging the use of non-bladed symbolic alternatives where appropriate.
