Rejected petition: Hold national finals for Eurovision
Rejected on
Start hosting national finals for our Eurovision song contest entries. This should include national televote and its own jury system, following countries like Finland, Bulgaria (2026 winner), Italy, to an extent, and Moldova. These countries perform much better than we do on average.
Our last few Eurovision songs have been abysmal in the votes. If we hosted national finals, the UK might do slightly better considering we qualify no matter what. Since Sam Ryder, who was actually pretty good, we have gotten 0 points on every song (minus 2023 but it deserved 0), and rightly so. Bulgaria, who has a national final, won first place this year with top votes from both the jury and televote, which is very impressive. Finland, on whole, performance really well, especially on televote.
