Open petition: Instruct Natural England to change grazing rules to protect endangered species
Created by Stephen Musgrove
Closes on
The Government must get Natural England to change its grazing rules to take account of unique local circumstances & species, like Dartmoor’s native ponies which are under threat unless changes are made. New contracts could remove up to 90% of them. Ensure these endangered heritage ponies are exempt.
Dartmoor’s native hill ponies have lived on the moor for over 3,000 years. Numbers have collapsed from 7,000 to under 1,000 in 25 years. New 'Natural England' contracts treat them as livestock and could remove up to 90% of remaining herds. We urge the Government to exempt these endangered native ponies from the cuts and protect Britain’s heritage.
