Rejected petition: The Northumberland A1 Safety Guarantee: Action Immediate Protection.
Rejected on
Commit to continuously dualling the Northumberland A1 to the Scottish Border. Implement immediate, interim safety upgrades north of Morpeth—including junction visibility and hazard warnings—to prevent fatal collisions and stop dangerous traffic displacement through local rural villages.
The single-carriageway sections of the Northumberland A1 north of Morpeth are an active public safety crisis. Sudden bottlenecks and dangerous flat junctions cause frequent fatal collisions and serious injuries. When crashes gridlock the A1, heavy freight and tourist traffic flood inadequate local village roads, gridlocking rural communities. We need a permanent safety guarantee: a commitment to continuous dualling and immediate, interim safety upgrades to protect lives and our economy.
