Open petition: Mandate mental health & disability awareness training for customer-facing jobs

Created by Nikita Waitland
Closes on

We believe the Government should introduce a law which requires semi-regular online training courses on how to recognise and appropriately respond to those with mental health needs or disabilities for any job involving face-to-face work with customers, like train stations and pharmacies.

We believe staff working in these positions, such as train stations, should be trained in what to look out for and how to respond regarding people who may be disabled or have mental health issues.

For example, staff should not respond to an autistic person being harassed on the train by moving the victim, rewarding the harasser with their seat, trying to hug the victim, or putting them in an unsafe situation. We believe autistic people are being mistreated too often due to a lack of basic understanding.
