Rejected petition: AQA science GCSE grade boundaries should be lowered

Rejected on

GCSE AQA combined and triple science papers have been extremely confusing. Paper 2 combined science biology paper 2 had 3 6 markers which is practically unheard of and triple science had 4 6 markers. Questions in all papers have been worded strangely and was very difficult to answer.

Many students feel the 2026 GCSE Science exams were much harder than expected. Numerous questions required complex application of knowledge beyond what many students had prepared for using past papers and revision resources. We ask exam boards and regulators to review the difficulty of these papers and ensure grade boundaries are adjusted fairly if necessary. Students should receive grades that accurately reflect their knowledge, effort, and ability.
