Rejected petition: Increase the English social care savings threshold to fix UK regional inequality
Rejected on
England's upper capital threshold for social care has been frozen since 2010 at £23,250. Plans to raise the threshold to £100,000 and introduce a lifetime care cap have been scrapped and an unfair postcode lottery remains. In Wales the limit is £50,000 while Scotland is £36,750 + free personal care.
England’s social care savings limit has been frozen since 2010, creating a cruel UK postcode lottery. While Wales protects assets up to £50,000 and Scotland protects up to £36,750 and provides free personal care, English citizens are left completely exposed. It is profoundly unfair that people who work hard their whole lives, pay taxes and buy a home to provide for their family have it all taken away. Parliament must urgently raise the threshold and stop penalizing a lifetime of self-reliance.
