Rejected petition: Review and Remove Religious Exemptions That Override UK Law

Rejected on

Review and remove legal exemptions that allow individuals or organisations to be exempt from UK law on the basis of religion or belief. Ensure the same laws apply equally to all citizens, while continuing to protect freedom of religion and worship.

The UK rightly protects freedom of religion & belief. We believe all citizens should be subject to the same laws and legal standards. Current legislation contains a number of religious exemptions, including in relation to carrying certain bladed articles & some animal slaughter practices. We call on the Government to review all such exemptions & either remove them or clearly justify why they remain necessary, ensuring equality before the law and maintaining public confidence in the legal system.
