Open petition: Exempt Lifelong Warfarin Users from NHS prescription charge

Created by Helen Robinson
Closes on

We want lifelong warfarin users to be exempt from NHS prescription charges. Patients with mechanical heart valves must take warfarin for life and have no choice but to remain on this medication.

People born with congenital heart disease who require a mechanical heart valve must take warfarin every day for life to prevent blood clots, stroke and valve failure.

Unlike people with some other lifelong conditions, those who depend on warfarin after mechanical valve replacement are not exempt from prescription charges. We think this is unfair. We call on the Government to fund an NHS prescription charge exemption for a lifelong warfarin users.
