Rejected petition: Increase funding for the Metropolitan Police

Rejected on

Increase funding for the Metropolitan Police. At the moment 1400 staff are being cut from the Metropolitan Police. Serious offences like Murder, GBH and Sexual crimes are not being investigated to a standard to keep people safe. More funding and reversing team cuts are needed.

The Metropolitan Police has a funding shortfall of millions of pounds, but there is no increase in spending by the Mayor of London or Government to cover this shortfall. Therefore investigation teams are being cut. These cuts will mean serious offenders will not be investigated as there is not the manpower to do it leaving Londoners vulnerable to serious criminals due to a funding crisis.

Why was this petition rejected?

It requests action at a local level.

This is a local matter and also principally the responsibility of the Mayor of London and the GLA rather than the Government or Parliament.
